We congratulate Dr. Ralf Vogelgesang for his habilitation!

Visit Prof. Engheta

Prof. Nader Engheta (University of Pennsylvania) will give a talk on Thursday, 6th December. His talk is entitled "Of Light, Electrons, and Metastructures" and will take place at 13:00 in room 4.313 (Jürgen-Kuhl-Library, Pfaffenwaldring 57).

Group Trip

Pictures from this year's group trip to the Elsass region in France (Goersdorf).

New PhD

Congratulations to Richard Taubert for obtaining the title Dr. rer. nat.

Our PhD students won several awards at the "Statusworkshop" of the "Kompetenznetz Funktionelle Nanostrukturen". Mario Hentschel ranked second in the photo contest "Images from the nano world". He also got an award for the second-best student talk. The best talk was given by our PhD student Bernd Metzger.

Poster Prize

Our PhD student Bernd Metzger won one of the poster prizes (300 EUR) at NFO 12. Congratulations!

Our former PhD student and postdoc Dr. Na Liu received the Sofja Kovalevskaja Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She chose the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems as her host institution where she will become a group leader in the department of Prof. Dr. Joachim Spatz. The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award is the highest award of the Humboldt foundation and comes with 1.65 million Euros. She will use the money as seed for her future activitites in nanochemistry and nanobiology. Congratulations!

Visit Prof. Soukoulis

Prof. Costas M. Soukoulis will speak about Photonic Metamaterials: Challenges and Opportunities (abstract). The talk takes places at Monday, 16th July, on 14:00 in room 4.342 (Jürgen-Kuhl-Library).

Volleyball Tournament

Our team ranked 3rd at this year's SCoPE Volleyball Tournament.

Nobel Prize Winners Meeting

We presented our metamaterial glucose sensor at the 62nd Lindau meeting of Nobel Prize winners. Laureates Dudley Herschbach (Harvard) and John Hall (Boulder) take a closer look.

Nanospots Film Festival

Our short movie "Wasserstoff – aber sicher" was presented at the nanospots film festival as one of the ten best contributions. Please take also a look at the video special at Spiegel Online.

New PhD

Congratulations to Marius Vieweg for obtaining the title Dr. rer. nat.

Group Picture

Time for a new group picture.

New PhD

Our PhD student Andreas Tittl receives the second prize (1000 EUR) in the competition for the Green Photonics Award of the Fraunhofer IOF for his work on plasmonic hydrogen sensors. Congratulations!

New Back Cover

Our new pssb article Plasmonic antennas, positioning, and coupling of individual quantum systems appeared on the back cover of volume 249, issue 4.

Visit Prof. Kreibig

Prof. U. Kreibig from RWTH Aachen visited our group and gave his opinion on "Beyond Mie theory and quantum plasmonics".

New Nature Communications Article

Our new Nature Communications article "Octave-Wide Photonic Band Gap in Three-dimensional Plasmonic Bragg Structures and Limitations of Radiative Coupling" by R. Taubert, D. Dregely, T. Stroucken, A. Christ, and H. Giessen has now been published. This article has been chosen for the Featured Image in Nature Communications.

Ideas Contest

Our project "Nichtinvasive Messung und Analyse des Glucosespiegels von Diabetespatienten mittels Metamaterialien" (Non-invasive measurement and analysis of the glucose level of diabetes patients with metamaterials) is among the ten winning projects of the "Ideenwettbewerb Biotechnologie und Medizintechnik" (Ideas contest biotechnology and medical technology).
